The next day, Saturday, we just got to sleep for a few hours. As normal, we were supposed to get together in the lobby at 6:15 AM. So, we woke up early and got together, and started driving to the draft. We clocked in at 7 and got our jackets and ties and went by the stage quickly. Tis day was the last day of the draft and we also had to leave early so we could get back to Tiffin at time. We all decided to leave the draft at 1PM. The draft started early that day. There was a bike show in the morning, picking rounds, and then the concert in the evening. This time I was working by the Marriot's hospitality section. I was right in front of the stage. After the bike show, the picks announcements got started and crowd gathered in a matter of minutes. The was also sunny and beautiful. At 1PM our supervisor started making transitions, so we could leave. At 1, supervisor came to me, shook my hand and said, "it was nice working with you". I responded the same way and left the draft with a lot of good memories with me.

The next day, Friday, we were supposed to wake up and get together in the hotel's lobby by 8:15. So we all woke up early, took a shower, got ready and went to the lobby room by the given time. Our hotel was 30 minutes drive from the draft area. However, we got to the draft area by 8:45 and clocked in at 9. Our supervisor took us to the stage, introduced our spots to us. For a while, he told me to walk around and take care of other people who needed break. When the draft got started, I got to work by the band. I have to admit that it was a sweet and nice spot to be there. The whole band crew came in and started to get ready for the show. All of the band, the musicians and the singers were nice and respectful to me. Moreover, their media manager came from the back to make sure I was comfortable there and she also brought me some coffee. My job was to make sure nobody steps over the stage and misbehave. Anyway, the draft went pretty good even through the rain and cold. All of the picks were over by 12O' clock but we stuck around for while till everybody wrapped up. We clocked out at 1 after that long and fun day.

I woke up early at 3AM, started driving to Tiffin. I met Dr. Goeb and everybody else around 6o' clock. We started driving to Green Bay around 6:30 AM. It was beautiful and fun drive of eight hours with some stops. We went straight to the event around 2:45 PM. All of us clocked in at 3PM with Allied Universal, after that we all got dressed up nicely in black jackets and ties. We all waited for a while for our supervisor to receive us. After we met our supervisor, he took us to the draft area and introduced our spots to us. I was put in front of the crowd as a security. It was all good and well, people enjoyed through the event. Everybody from the crowd was nice and enjoying the draft. I enjoyed working and watching all the pick rounds throughout the first day of the draft.  After 12 AM the draft started to wrap up and we all waited until the fans left. By 1 AM we clocked out and went back to the hotel. Overall, the first day of the draft was all fun and exciting.

Internship with Keiana Mitchell - Director of Columbus Rec & Parks Foundations(40hrs)

Keiana Mitchell, my mentor, she was working as Strategy Management at CRPD. In the middle of the February, she got promoted as a Director of CRP Foundations. Going through all of those zoom meetings, we had kind of a discussion that if she gets the position, she would be able to have me work in the office as her intern. So, we scheduled Thursdays 11AM to 4PM  for my hours with her in the office. With the promotion, she received 6 boxes full of documents and we had to go through all of them, so we could secure the important ones and recycle the rest.
The first week was pretty challenging for me, I spent half of the time wondering what those documents were all about. Eventually, I got the hang of all of the papers with the help of Keiana. This week, I spent my hours going through all of the check request forms, financial reports from all of the Columbus city community centers. After that, i went for some pick ups which was donations for the golf event named Champions For Play.
For the next week, I was going through legal documents, financial reports of the foundation, strategic planning, and all of the organizational documents.
For rest of the weeks till now, It took me two more weeks to finish of those boxes. Apart from that, I spent my hours in the office helping Keiana with writing and posting gift cards, managing the donation items, and learning more about the foundation. Going through all of the documents, I learned a lot about organizational structure and its dynamics.
I still go to the office every Thursday, and I plan to acquire more knowledge about the non-profit world's connection with sports.

Recruiting for Tiffin University Bowling (56 Hrs)

Tiffin University Bowling Recruitment played a huge part in my mentorship phase. I remember it was the second week of the semester, Dr Tiell would check on me as usual in the class if I was getting enough hours. After our conversation about the hours she introduced me to coach Massi. We got in touch with each other and coach Massi told me to come visit him in the office next week. From the third week he introduced me to the recruitment work and he taught me to how to send recruiting emails, managing data of already recruited students in excel. After that, coach Massi also gave me the information copies of potential recruits to send recruiting text messages. Apart from that i joined coach Massi on Fridays and Saturdays for the next two weeks for recruiting at bowling tournaments. Basically, on the tournament, we would get our tickets, talk to the parents of the potential recruits and hand them the TU cards to fill out their information. Surprisingly, coach Massi helped me to overcome my fear of talking to strangers. I was amazed by the whole experience and to see how helpful all of the parents were.
Moreover, here comes the hard part, for the next week, coach Massi had to go to New York, so he handed me the responsibility of recruiting at the tournament by myself.  For those two days I got one of the biggest reality check to myself, I saw my real worth. I struggled at talking to people, I lost the track of Cards, got turned down by someone. Anyway, I ended up getting just 15 cards for the TU recruiting. I found the whole situation ludicrous. But I learned a lot about solicitation and how hard it could be at given circumstances.  Apart from that, I spent most of my hours sending recruiting emails and text messages to flag football recruits. Normally, I had chosen Sundays and a few Mondays for the emails and text messages.  overall, I can say that the whole experience with TU Bowling and coach Massi, was amazing. I feel lucky to learn a lot in such a short time span and I am proud to have another skill unlocked in my life.

Data Entry with Columbus Rec & Parks Department (50 Hrs)

As per our usual zoom meeting Keiana would have me to sign up for the volunteer activities but I was not achieving my certain goal for hours. We had a discussion about this problem in our zoom meeting, so she introduced me to Betty, she is a Data Analyst at Rec & Parks Department. We scheduled a zoom meeting with her and she introduced everything to me what I had to do for the project. Basically, she gave me the volunteer waiver forms to enter the data into excel sheet. She told me that it was going to be one of the most boring job and we laughed about it. However, at first, I thought it was not going to take much time but then I found out it will. I would spend entering data 3 to 4 hours throughout the weekends. Especially on Saturdays and sometimes on Fridays as well.  If we talk about the technical side of the work, the waivers included person's name, address, the demographic information, ethnicity, and profession. I am glad that I had the flexibility to do the job at any time of the day because it was all virtual. For the whole project I ended up entering more than 300 people's information and I learned a lot about Data Entry. I am proud to say that I acquired a new technical skill after this project.

Adaptive Swim Club Week 2 (2hrs)

1/25/2025

This was the week second of Adaptive Swimming. This Saturday, I parked behind the building, but nobody was there yet. Few minutes later, other people started arriving, but the front door was locked for some reason. We got in through the back door that was open already for us. I forgot to mention we also had other volunteers from Ohio State University belonging to Physical Therapy Majors. As soon as they came in, we started gathering the equipment for the team level 1. This time I was going to get into water. The first team usually has 45 minutes to work with. All of the individuals have different disabilities. At the beginning, it's hard to get them into the water, so they need some demonstrations to fulfill the purpose. It is not recommended to take them into the water if they resist.  In that case, we have to demonstrate our self getting into the water repeatedly or we have to demonstrate some toys getting into water. When you get them into the water, we are supposed to get them to make bubbles and make efforts for swimming. After this 45 minutes session, the instructor takes over and take all of the individuals to the other pool. In that session, we are just supposed to watch and be around them, if they need help with anything. After this, we start moving to the next session of the practice of Adaptive Swimmers. The very first individual from the team was Mark to arrive. I was told by Ray to help him with the practice. He was preparing for his upcoming swimming competition, so we were tracking his sprint timing. After all of the activities, Meghan, another volunteer, got me to sign a waiver and we put all of the equipment back to its place. Everyone said goodbyes and started leaving. Overall, it was great Saturday and staying in water for two hours was a blessing for my body.

Wheelchair Rugby Practice at Schiller (4 Hrs)

Wheel Chair Rugby practice at Schiller community center was another amazing volunteering experience for me. As per our usual weekly zoom meeting, Keiana got me signed up for this event. This was basically a wheelchair rugby practice session. The session went on from 11AM to 3PM. When i got there, I first met Joey, he introduced me to all of the other people. All of us were around twelve people for the session. Some of them were, professional wheelchair rugby players. Around 11.30 we started kicking off the session with a little warm up and stretching. After that we started doing some drills back and forth in the court. It looked easy at first few drills but it got really hard for me to catch up with the other members at 5 round drills. After that, all of the players decided to take a water break. After the water break, we decided to have a match and one more player joined us for the match. Running a rugby wheelchair is not easy as it looks from the outside and on top of that being a newbie is completely different. After the session my shoulders and neck were completely soar and exhausted. However, we lost the match. After the practice session, we circled up in the court for cool down and stretching. All of the players gave me the chance to break the session at the end, but things got a little funny. As they told me to count one to three and call  break at three, but i fumbled in between the moment. One of the players said, "Kamaljeet, this wasn't awesome but it was okay". All of us laughed and left the courtyard. Apart from all of that, the wheelchair rugby practice session was an insightful experience for me. Because, the place I come from, para-athletes do not get enough chance to thrive. This session gave me a better understanding about the lives of para-athletes and i got to know them better.

I had the another opportunity to volunteer at Adaptive Aquatics Swim Club in Columbus. This was a short volunteer activity from 8 AM to 10 PM. As per our usual meeting, Keiana referred this opportunity to me. I signed up for this activity the same day. So, in the morning of the Saturday, i went a little early, wandered around a little bit until the time. At 8'o clock I went to the desk and asked for volunteer activity. Employee at the desk guided me to the manager Ray. Ray introduced me to the other volunteers as well when I met her. After that, Ray asked one of the employees to introduce other protocols to me. Then, I met Eddie, she asked me first if I could get into water with the children, that day i was not ready for the water, So, she got me to help with the equipment arrangement and the attendance sheet. The whole activity was divided into three parts. The first one was to help level 1 children, to get them into the water and make bubbles. The second one involved volunteering around level 2 children in a 15 feet pool to help them. The third activity was to be with the team preparing for competition. As i was not in the water, I got a chance to talk to all of the children's parents and I was amazed to see their support. All the time, I was taking care of the sheet and the chores outside of the pool. As the team members were arriving, I was marking off that attendance sheet. Eddie was with me for the whole session. She made sure I understood everything about the Adaptive swimming. After going through the whole session, everybody said goodbyes and left quickly and also told me to get into water next time.

Wellness Expo at Schiller Community Center (6 Hrs)

Volunteering at Schiller community center was my first ever volunteering experience.  As per our usual zoom meeting, Keiana, my mentor helped me sign up for the event.  The event went on from 9AM to 3PM. I reached the place a little early and met few people who worked over there.  After having small talks with the employees of the center, I found out that this was the annual event that is held every year to engage attract young individuals' interest in sports. However, If I talk about the event, there was a lot of stuff needed to be settled before the event starts. I contributed in setting up the tables, organizing the equipment for the event. After that, me and my co-volunteer Mark, were assigned to handle the bicycle smoothie maker, which was fun. There was a blender on the backseat of the bicycle, connected with the peddles, the more you peddle the more you blend your smoothie. Every young and old individual at the event rode the bicycle and enjoyed the smoothies. Apart from that, there were individuals representing different institutions such as Ohio State University, Columbus Fire department, Columbus Police department etc. Around 2'o clock we started wrapping up the equipment. By the time, me and Mark washed down the equipment and put everything back in its place. I enjoyed talking to Mike meanwhile, he shared a lot of his life experiences. After wrapping up everything, I said goodbye to everybody and started driving home. Overall, it was quite a memorable experience for me.
